Convergence In Printing New Ways to Do Business in 2022

Napco Research conducted a critical investigation into the printing industry. The objective is to  determine how print segments are merging through print service providers to expand into segments beyond their own. In other words, PSPs are getting out of their comfort zone and into other segments of the business to make money.

But how is this happening? For years, printers have been participating in convergence. It’s nothing new, but PSPs have accelerated their efforts to find new places to do business, new ways to use existing equipment and expand their portfolios to serve the expanded needs of their clients.  This trend is gaining speed as evidenced by the findings of this study:

  • 81 percent of PSPs are entering or considering entrance into a new print segment
  • 80 percent of respondents are considering one or more new segments to enter
  • Most popular segment: packaging with 38 percent evaluating the segment
  • What constitutes packaging? Labels, folding cartons, flexible packaging and corrugated
  • PSPs consider labeling as the most attractive sector in packaging
